AZULI
AZULI

Azuli are an alternative indie-rock back project that I was a part of for a year. We recorded these three tracks across two days independently. I wrote the drum parts alongside Jesse Roache (Bass) so that the rhythms were locked in with one another. Each track ended getting radio play on BBC Radio Bristol!

We also played numerous shows together across Bath and Bristol before focusing on separate musical endeavours.

Radio Laika
RADIO LAIKA

Video Game was recorded nearly 2 years ago before Radio Laika found their current drummer. I've since been a deputy drummer for occasional gigs. I also recorded another track with them that is yet to be released which can be found here - Unreleased Material.

My approach to these tracks was to keep my parts straightforward and followed the band's guidance on what they wanted taking inspiration from a blend of indie rock/punk and alt-pop styles, particularly as Radio Laika fit across these genres.

Garbage Queen
GARBAGE QUEEN

I recorded "Reflection" with Garbage Queen a couple of years back. She wanted a very tribal, Siouxsie and the Banashees inspired groove in the verses followed by a more driving rhythm in the choruses.

Last year I recorded "P(r)etty Boy", which has many dynamic changes - a common characteristic of Garbage Queen songs! There's a big tempo jump from the bridge back to the final chorus, about 40bpm I seem to remember! I am very happy with my playing on this track. This can be listened to here - Unreleased Material.

Lloyd Mitchell

I've been drumming with Lloyd for the past 6 months or so. Playing 60's-style pop ballads was new to me at first, however with Lloyd's guidance it wasn't long until I was comfortable playing his tracks. Unfortunately we were only able to record this one track, "No One Wants To See You Like This", before the Covid-19 lockdown came into place, although we were lucky enough to perform a live rendition of this song too.

We recorded the studio track live with no click alongside a scratch vocal and guitar track. Overall I'm very pleased with the outcome and look forward to doing more with Lloyd in the future. This can be found here - Unreleased Material

Dormant
DORMANT

Dormant is Luke Shadrick's alt-rock project that I've been a part of for the past 6 months. I've enjoyed playing this style of music for a while so it's been good to be involved in Dormant.

Again, due to the current circumstances, we were unable to play any shows and only recorded one song called "Listen Close". However since then, we recorded a couple of short tracks using a one mic drum recording that Luke has called "Lockdown Sessions".

JAMIE WATSON
Jamie Watson

I recorded three tracks  for Jamie a few months ago as live takes alongside Ed Docherty (bass). Jamie wanted my drumming to be driving and massive to fit the rock power ballad style.

Prior to the recording session Jamie, Ed and I spent a lot of time rehearsing the songs to ensure the time in the studio was efficient and our performances would be effective. The three songs can be listened to here - Unreleased Material.

ONE OFFS
ONE OFFS

This track was written by Felix Colbert (Radio Laika) and Sam Cother (Babyshoes) for their side project Helpline. Sam asked me to record drums on the track as he initially played on the track, however wanted to make adjustments to hardware in the control room simultaneously. The groove through is fairly straightforward, yet needed to be hard hitting throughout so that Sam could crank up the compression! It was a fun session to do, especially working with another drummer in the control room.

Sam recorded the intro drums using a mono room mic with very heavy compression from the UA1176.
